Rey, Finn and Poe: Can we (really) expect them to make a return?
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
Wednesday Dec 01, 2021
On this, the 97th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- take a closer look at all the latest in Star Wars news, including some juicy nuggets dropped by Kathleen Kennedy. The biggest one of all might have been her suggestion that Lucasfilm is thinking about the return of sequel trilogy characters Rey, Finn and Poe. Can fans expect that to actually happen? Is Kennedy just being savvy? Is it both? Beyond those questions, the crew addresses the latest casting news for "Ahsoka," talks a little about repurposing old material for new properties and once again offers a critical eye toward "Star Wars prison," aka Galactic Starcruiser.

Alex Rawls: What do Christmas songs have in common with Star Wars?
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
Thursday Nov 18, 2021
Welcome to the 96th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by New Orleans music writer Alex Rawls (@Alex_Rawls), who produces his own podcast, the "Twelve Songs of Christmas," which takes a closer look at unique or interesting takes on traditional Christmas music. This concept of telling the same story over and over again might be familiar to Star Wars fans. So, we talked about some of the complexities of that. What makes a piece of media special? What makes a sequel or cover song worth your time? Does a familiar song or story provide a better canvas for evaluating an artist? And what are some of the best and worst Christmas songs of all time? We covered all of that and absolutely took a look at some of the "geekier" Christmas songs in existence in the process. We also talked some Saints, "Rogue Squadron" delays, Kathleen Kennedy, and Disney+ Day. This show is big ... but it's worth your time.

‘Book of Boba Fett‘ trailer and politics in Star Wars
Wednesday Nov 03, 2021
Wednesday Nov 03, 2021
For the 95th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk a little Saints and Halloween before diving into the "Book of Boba Fett" trailer. What did the trailer show us, what did it merely hint at, and what more do we want to see? Your hosts offer some clues as to what we can expect to see from this new show before transitioning to a different topic perfect for voting season: politics in Star Wars. They outline how the politics have always been there from the start, what lessons we can take from the saga (hint: it's more about the act of getting involved rather than the particulars of how), and why a Star Wars without politics would actually be boring.

Anakin is back ... How is this a good thing?
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
With news breaking that Hayden Christensen has been cast in the new "Ahsoka" show, your WhoDatJedi podcast hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do their best to unpack that and dovetail into a larger discussion on the character of Anakin Skywalker. Regardless of one's opinion on the character from the prequels, we've also seen him in "The Clone Wars," and partially on the strength of that character's on-screen story, the group's consensus is: "Give us more." So what can we learn about Anakin going forward? And how does he tend to be a good reflection for other characters, and what might that mean for "Ahsoka?" The group goes down a pretty big rabbit hole in this discussion, but they also talk about a big casting rumor for the Cassian Andor series, drop "The Mandalorian" news nuggets, and even give the listeners some puppy time.

How do the sequels enhance the original Star Wars trilogy?
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
On the 93rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- revisit their topic from a couple of weeks ago ... how the other movies in the saga actually enhance the original Star Wars trilogy, this time looking at the sequels (Episodes VII-IX). There's a certain reverence the filmmakers paid the OT during the sequels, and that permeates those movies ... and in certain cases it elevates some of the original material. Beyond that, the character of Palpatine is now even bigger (and badder) a figure than he was before and we now have more of a complete (and honest) picture of our original heroes. If you're down on the sequels maybe this conversation will give you a more positive perspective on things!

It's the 92nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk about collecting ... within the Star Wars universe and without. They share their stories of collecting misadventures from their youth, why they still collect as adults (or why they stopped), what the benefits (and dangers) are, what the psychology of what motivates it might be, and how emotional an experience it can be in general. How do the prequels enhance the original Star Wars trilogy?
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
Wednesday Oct 06, 2021
On this, the 91st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- address the Star Wars prequels (Episodes I-III) and how they enhance, rather than detract from the original trilogy of films. Slagging on those movies as "ruining one's childhood" has been an easy and popular thing for fans to do for a long time, but why can folks ultimately be glad that they exist? What do they do well? And what things in particular do they do that make our enjoyment of Episodes IV-VI even greater? If you're a prequel hater, maybe this episode can give you something new to think about. And if you're a prequel lover, this is definitely the episode for you.

But with some of the others ... well, we won't spoil it to much, but let's just say the guys are not fans of some of it (*cough* Jedi Rocks *cough*). They provide their thoughts on all of the specific changes in the movie, but they also talk a little about gatekeeping and how fans' attachment to their own experiences can be limiting to others. Welcome to the 84th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- start a deeper dive on the Star Wars special editions by talking about the 1997 re-release of "A New Hope." The changes present in that film have resonated throughout the fandom for a long time (Han shot first?), but even beyond the more controversial choices, were ANY of the changes good? The group goes through each change and talks a bit about the bigger issues. Does a filmmaker reserve the right to change his work in perpetuity? And what's the REAL reason the changes were made? It's first and foremost on everyone's mind following the news of the week surrounding the New Orleans Pelicans, but it also ends up being a point of discussion as they look at the slow pace buildup of "The Bad Batch" and even the "talk-y" nature of "Loki." The MCU has traditionally done a good job of rewarding longtime fans, and they seem to be doing the same with their latest show.
