Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
Wednesday Mar 30, 2022
It's the 111th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- provide a brand new commentary track for "Revenge of the Sith." With the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series right around the corner, it seemed a perfect time to revisit the film that left Old Ben standing on the high ground, underestimating Anakin's power. Are there any new insights to discover in light of the upcoming TV show? The crew discusses the movie's many high and low points in trying to assess how successful George Lucas was in achieving his vision ... and how well the movie holds up today.

Hello there! On the 110th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk about some of the latest news in Star Wars fandom and do a full deep dive into the trailer for the new live action Disney+ series, "Obi-Wan Kenobi." The crew looks at the trailer shot by shot to find Easter eggs and hints about the show, and they discuss some of the news/rumors surrounding the show's evolution. Is it a good thing if the antagonist was changed? What about the tone? And can "Duel of the Fates" do no wrong? Listen for some answers!

Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- have had a lot of fun joking about the relative unattractiveness of Disney's newest venture, "Galactic Starcruiser," the immersive hotel experience launching in Orlando. On the 109th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, they take a closer look at "Star Wars prison" to give it a fair assessment. Yes, it's pricey. But what do you get for the money? What should you know going in? How does it connect to Galaxy's Edge? And what does the future of this experience look like. The group has some thoughts to share.

For the 108th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do a full review of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. How, ultimately, should we evaluate the show? Do some of the main themes (family, redemption, rebirth) come through as concisely as they could have? And what would we like to see from the next generation of Star Wars television series? The group speaks to all of that and even makes a little time for some John Williams and other news talk.

On this, the 107th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by Leslie Holder (@JustLeslieCat), who recently binged virtually all of the Star Wars live-action movies and TV shows over the course of a few weeks. Coming at the series with fresh eyes, the crew discussed the improvement of the sequel trilogy from that viewpoint, the appeal of the ground-level Star Wars that isn't Jedi or politics-heavy, and how violent Star Wars secretly is (and how it gets away with it). Also, apparently Luke Skywalker is terrible? All film takes aside, the group also talked about crafting in Star Wars and Mardi Gras and what goes into all of that. Give us a listen!

The Book of Boba Fett, Chapter 7: In the sandbox
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
On the 106th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- analyze the final (seventh) chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. Not that there was any doubt about any of this, but this is a full-blown space western now, which basically just serves as an excuse to blow things up in a really cool way. The reason this still works is they get the "blow things up in a really cool way" part right. Everyone here is having an enormous amount of fun (except maybe the Pykes), so let's do that as well. Sit back and just enjoy. Kind of a foreign concept for Star Wars fans, we know, but let's do it. And then let's speculate on the future.

Welcome to the 105th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- provide commentary on the sixth chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. This episode brought in a ton of heavy hitters and fan favorites and was a total crowd pleaser. It's not even worth talking about how this all fits into Boba's story anymore. The more pressing questions are: 1. How are they going to end this thing? and 2. How much previous material do fans need to have consumed to even understand what's going on here? Let's dive in!

It's the 104th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- jump into the fifth chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. The big topic, naturally, is how big of a departure this episode ended up being. As a part of telling a story about this particular character, it's really tough to evaluate, because it doesn't do that at all. Taken simply as a piece of Star Wars media, though? It's brilliant. The guys talk about how this is the "Brown Eyed Girl" of the set list, how it gives us better insight into a fan favorite character, appreciate how dripping with prequel-era nostalgia it is, and what it might tell us about the future of "The Mandalorian."

The newest offering provides better insight on the relationship between Boba and his companion Fennec Shand, but beyond that it's mostly a (well executed) thrill ride. Is that enough? For the 102nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do a watch and react to the third chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. This episode of the series has drawn some criticism from fans for some of its real-life inspiration, but the WhoDatJedi crew has more concern over the quality of the visuals and effects, which just aren't as consistently good as Star Wars generally produces. Still, there's plenty to like here. The group also talks a little "Spider-Man: No Way Home," Dave's comic book movie rankings, and more.

Friday Jan 07, 2022
On the 101st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- take a deeper dive into the second chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. Beyond addressing some of the deeper cuts on display, the crew spends a lot of time looking at the different perspectives fans have been getting in this series, specifically as it relates to the Tusken Raiders. If those characters are a proxy or extension of Indigenous peoples, it's a fairly important step for Star Wars to offer a better look at their culture and to present them as well formed individuals. Also, how does all of this ultimately inform Boba's character? Are we truly seeing him turn over a new leaf, or is the matter a little grayer than we might think?

The biggest one of all might have been her suggestion that Lucasfilm is thinking about the return of sequel trilogy characters Rey, Finn and Poe. Can fans expect that to actually happen? Is Kennedy just being savvy? Is it both? Beyond those questions, the crew addresses the latest casting news for "Ahsoka," talks a little about repurposing old material for new properties and once again offers a critical eye toward "Star Wars prison," aka Galactic Starcruiser.

Welcome to the 96th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by New Orleans music writer Alex Rawls (@Alex_Rawls), who produces his own podcast, the "Twelve Songs of Christmas," which takes a closer look at unique or interesting takes on traditional Christmas music. This concept of telling the same story over and over again might be familiar to Star Wars fans. So, we talked about some of the complexities of that. What makes a piece of media special? What makes a sequel or cover song worth your time? Does a familiar song or story provide a better canvas for evaluating an artist? And what are some of the best and worst Christmas songs of all time? We covered all of that and absolutely took a look at some of the "geekier" Christmas songs in existence in the process. We also talked some Saints, "Rogue Squadron" delays, Kathleen Kennedy, and Disney+ Day. This show is big ... but it's worth your time.

What did the trailer show us, what did it merely hint at, and what more do we want to see? Your hosts offer some clues as to what we can expect to see from this new show before transitioning to a different topic perfect for voting season: politics in Star Wars. They outline how the politics have always been there from the start, what lessons we can take from the saga (hint: it's more about the act of getting involved rather than the particulars of how), and why a Star Wars without politics would actually be boring.

Wednesday Oct 27, 2021
With news breaking that Hayden Christensen has been cast in the new "Ahsoka" show, your WhoDatJedi podcast hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do their best to unpack that and dovetail into a larger discussion on the character of Anakin Skywalker. Regardless of one's opinion on the character from the prequels, we've also seen him in "The Clone Wars," and partially on the strength of that character's on-screen story, the group's consensus is: "Give us more." So what can we learn about Anakin going forward? And how does he tend to be a good reflection for other characters, and what might that mean for "Ahsoka?" The group goes down a pretty big rabbit hole in this discussion, but they also talk about a big casting rumor for the Cassian Andor series, drop "The Mandalorian" news nuggets, and even give the listeners some puppy time.

How do the sequels enhance the original Star Wars trilogy?
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
Wednesday Oct 20, 2021
On the 93rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- revisit their topic from a couple of weeks ago ... how the other movies in the saga actually enhance the original Star Wars trilogy, this time looking at the sequels (Episodes VII-IX). There's a certain reverence the filmmakers paid the OT during the sequels, and that permeates those movies ... and in certain cases it elevates some of the original material. Beyond that, the character of Palpatine is now even bigger (and badder) a figure than he was before and we now have more of a complete (and honest) picture of our original heroes. If you're down on the sequels maybe this conversation will give you a more positive perspective on things!
