Who are the best characters in Star Wars?
Monday May 16, 2022
Monday May 16, 2022
It's the 117th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- put on the boxing gloves for EW's list of "The Top 100 Star Wars Characters Ever," a divisive and controversial ranking if ever there was one. Ultimately, these rankings and debates are all in good fun and the group attacks the list in that spirit, dissecting some of the more bizarre selections for inclusion and/or elevation and/or omission. But also listen as the group continuously gets taken aback by the rankings they hear, culminating in the most controversial choice of all melting their collective brains.

On the 116th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- preview Star Wars Celebration, the premiere Star Wars convention set to take place later this month (May 26-29). Aaron speaks a little to what the event typically looks like for anyone going for the first time, the crew breaks down why EVERY fan of Star Wars should pay attention from afar (trailers, previews and fun interviews!), but then the group really dives down into the event schedule to pinpoint their picks for most interesting panels and what some of the overall discussion might mean for the future of the franchise.

The game gives fans more of the same kinds of things they are used to, but it also presents a few new wrinkles too. The crew also tackles the latest news and headlines, including the latest fire nugget dropped by "Star Wars' crazy uncle." "Visions" and "Clone Wars" fans have reason to rejoice. It's the 111th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- provide a brand new commentary track for "Revenge of the Sith." With the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series right around the corner, it seemed a perfect time to revisit the film that left Old Ben standing on the high ground, underestimating Anakin's power. Are there any new insights to discover in light of the upcoming TV show? The crew discusses the movie's many high and low points in trying to assess how successful George Lucas was in achieving his vision ... and how well the movie holds up today.

Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- have had a lot of fun joking about the relative unattractiveness of Disney's newest venture, "Galactic Starcruiser," the immersive hotel experience launching in Orlando. On the 109th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, they take a closer look at "Star Wars prison" to give it a fair assessment. Yes, it's pricey. But what do you get for the money? What should you know going in? How does it connect to Galaxy's Edge? And what does the future of this experience look like. The group has some thoughts to share.

How, ultimately, should we evaluate the show? Do some of the main themes (family, redemption, rebirth) come through as concisely as they could have? On this, the 107th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by Leslie Holder (@JustLeslieCat), who recently binged virtually all of the Star Wars live-action movies and TV shows over the course of a few weeks. Coming at the series with fresh eyes, the crew discussed the improvement of the sequel trilogy from that viewpoint, the appeal of the ground-level Star Wars that isn't Jedi or politics-heavy, and how violent Star Wars secretly is (and how it gets away with it). Also, apparently Luke Skywalker is terrible? All film takes aside, the group also talked about crafting in Star Wars and Mardi Gras and what goes into all of that. Give us a listen!

The Book of Boba Fett, Chapter 7: In the sandbox
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
On the 106th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- analyze the final (seventh) chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. Not that there was any doubt about any of this, but this is a full-blown space western now, which basically just serves as an excuse to blow things up in a really cool way. The reason this still works is they get the "blow things up in a really cool way" part right. Everyone here is having an enormous amount of fun (except maybe the Pykes), so let's do that as well. Sit back and just enjoy. Kind of a foreign concept for Star Wars fans, we know, but let's do it. And then let's speculate on the future.

Welcome to the 105th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- provide commentary on the sixth chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. This episode brought in a ton of heavy hitters and fan favorites and was a total crowd pleaser. It's not even worth talking about how this all fits into Boba's story anymore. The more pressing questions are: 1. How are they going to end this thing? and 2. How much previous material do fans need to have consumed to even understand what's going on here? Let's dive in!

It's the 104th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast! This week, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and Dave Gladow (@davegladow) -- jump into the fifth chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. The big topic, naturally, is how big of a departure this episode ended up being. As a part of telling a story about this particular character, it's really tough to evaluate, because it doesn't do that at all. Taken simply as a piece of Star Wars media, though? It's brilliant. The guys talk about how this is the "Brown Eyed Girl" of the set list, how it gives us better insight into a fan favorite character, appreciate how dripping with prequel-era nostalgia it is, and what it might tell us about the future of "The Mandalorian."

For the 102nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do a watch and react to the third chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. This episode of the series has drawn some criticism from fans for some of its real-life inspiration, but the WhoDatJedi crew has more concern over the quality of the visuals and effects, which just aren't as consistently good as Star Wars generally produces. On the 101st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- take a deeper dive into the second chapter of "The Book of Boba Fett," the live action spinoff series to "The Mandalorian" on Disney+. Beyond addressing some of the deeper cuts on display, the crew spends a lot of time looking at the different perspectives fans have been getting in this series, specifically as it relates to the Tusken Raiders. If those characters are a proxy or extension of Indigenous peoples, it's a fairly important step for Star Wars to offer a better look at their culture and to present them as well formed individuals. Also, how does all of this ultimately inform Boba's character? Are we truly seeing him turn over a new leaf, or is the matter a little grayer than we might think?
