Galaxy's Edge extravaganza

Friday Mar 06, 2020
On this 17th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcost, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk Galaxy's Edge, the (relatively) new theme park land at Disney Land and Disney World. Dave took his family to Orlando over Mardi Gras break, so he gets into some of the nitty gritty, talks about the overall experience, and answers questions from Aaron and Fredo. What's it like to ride in the Millennium Falcon? Is building a lightsaber a near religious experience? And what the heck is going on with the new ride Rise of the Resistance? They cover those topics and much more!

A New Hope: Virtual disaster
Friday Feb 21, 2020
Friday Feb 21, 2020
Your WhoDatJedi hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- set their sights backward on today's episode (No. 16) to talk about "A New Hope," specifically about what a disaster the film nearly was. Leaning into documentaries such as "Empire of Dreams" -- a must-watch for anyone curious about the making of the original Star Wars, by the way -- they discuss how the film could have looked vastly different, how it would have been received differently if released at another time, and what it actually has in common with the newest Star Wars movie, "The Rise of Skywalker." This is a fun discussion of one of the most influential movies of all time.

On the 15th episode of WhoDatJedi, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- engage in some good old fashioned rumor mongering! Discussion starts with Taika Waititi's comments about potentially directing a Star Wars film, turns toward Bob Iger's statement that Disney is pursuing "The Mandalorian" spinoffs, and finally wraps with reports on the new Cassian Andor series ... including the news that the series is being prioritized over the Obi-Wan series and the unsubstantiated reports that George Lucas is returning to Star Wars as a writer and producer on the Cassian series. What would it actually mean if Lucas returned to his creation in this manner? Bonus on this Valentine's Day: What are the most romantic moments in Star Wars?

The Clone Wars: Why (and how) you should watch!
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Your WhoDatJedi hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dedicate their 14th episode to "The Clone Wars," the Star Wars animated series created by George Lucas and helmed by Dave Filoni (he of "The Mandalorian" fame). With a new, final, seventh season set to debut on Disney+ Feb. 21, and with the show having so many tie-ins to other Star Wars material (from "Rise of Skywalker" to "Solo" to "The Mandalorian"), now is a great time to review what's come before. They review their favorite moments and character arcs, offer their recommendations for first-time (and repeat) viewers with a viewing guide (linked below), and then talk about what they're looking forward to the most in season 7. Most importantly, they dispel the inaccuracy that this series is just for kids.

Tuesday Jan 28, 2020
Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus overlords Aryanna Gamble and Brooke Ethridge join your regular hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- on this 13th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast. And yes, there is a Mardi Gras parade dedicated to Star Wars. Mardi Gras is here, and it's a major part of the culture in New Orleans. This episode examines the intersection of Mardi Gras and nerd culture with the stewards of the biggest nerd parade in town. They share some of the history and new features of Chewbacchus. And whether you've lived here, always wanted to visit, or never even heard of any of this, this should be an illuminating episode. All Hail!

On the 12th episode of WhoDatJedi, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- begin the show looking ahead to season 2 of "The Mandalorian" and what new characters and plot lines we might expect to see. The conversation then turns to "The Rise of Skywalker" and the script leak of what was the original Episode IX. There's some good and some bad in there, but it also calls to mind a natural question: Does what we eventually got make sense? How does "Rise" connect to the other movies in the trilogy and the saga in whole? And what is the importance of legacy as a theme?

On the 11th episode of WhoDatJedi, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- look for "Rise of Skywalker" answers while "Looking for Leia." They begin their discussion by highlighting the new docu-series (available on SyFy Network and YouTube) that gives voice to female and non-binary Star Wars fans before changing gears and giving 3 good things, 2 bad things, and 1 thing they have questions about with "Rise of Skywalker." Topics include the action beats, the cinematography, the Emperor, "the kiss," and much more!

The Rise of Skywalker: Sheev Lives! (But why?)
Friday Jan 10, 2020
Friday Jan 10, 2020
Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- revisit Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker with a specific focus on the Emperor's return. Palpatine! Darth Sidious! Sheev! They get into specific problems they had with the execution of the storyline of his return and how it might have been improved. But they also ask and attempt to answer the question: Why even bring him back in the first place? He was a big part of the marketing push, so the conversation also addresses the trailers and looks at how specific elements from the trailers were expanded on in the film. Did this movie deliver on what it was promising?

Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- do their first deep dive on Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. For this first discussion, they talk about how polarized opinions seem to be about the movie and why that might be. Why did the people who loved it love it so much, and why did others react SO negatively? Are there objective criticisms that have merit? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the movie? Could problems have been fixed? And is it okay to simply like the movie and neither love nor hate it?

Monday Dec 30, 2019
Monday Dec 30, 2019
Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dive into the eighth and final chapter of season 1 of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. "Redemption" takes the group in a lot of directions, but the biggest point of discussion ends up being the reveal at the end of the episode. What does it mean? Where did it come from? And should it even have happened? They do a deep dive on sabers, but they also get into the Mandalorian's development as a character and his new change of direction (what the episode is really all about). "This is the way."

Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dive into the seventh episode of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. This episode is called "The Reckoning," and it's aptly named, as the Mando finally confronts his pursuers while continuing to make mistakes that resonate. The gang talks about those mistakes, gives more background on this "Lone Wolf and Cub" thing they keep referencing, dives into "force healing" as a concept, does a little Star Wars trivia, and also offers first impressions of "Rise of Skywalker."

They dive into that, address all of the fan service on display, debate if there are any Mandalorian-related "plot holes," talk a little about their excitement for "The Rise of Skywalker," and even play a little Star Wars trivia.
