An emotional ending to The Clone Wars
Friday May 08, 2020
Friday May 08, 2020
End, The Clone Wars have. On the 26th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- react to an event-filled May the Fourth. That day featured several big news drops (including the confirmation of Taika Waititi helming a new Star Wars film), the debut of a behind-the-scenes docu-series about "The Mandalorian" called "Disney Gallery," and of course the emotional final episode of "The Clone Wars." What does the "Clone Wars" ultimately tell us about Star Wars' past -- does it enhance the material (especially the prequels) that's already there? And what does "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian" hint at for Star Wars' future? We're at a reflection point in Star Wars, with things ending and new things beginning, and it makes for a far-reaching conversation on this week's show.

The wild world of Star Wars Lego collecting
Friday May 01, 2020
Friday May 01, 2020
Just in time for May the Fourth, your WhoDatJedi podcast hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by special guest Chuck Layman (@DrJaxNole) to discuss the colorful and fascinating world of Star Wars Lego collecting. In addition to some initial "Clone Wars" talk, the group dives into the history of this particular collecting niche and get into the psychology of what makes it a fun hobby today. What are the benefits of collecting? You might know some of the basics already (those are covered for newbies like Dave), but do you know just HOW big this world is? Until you listen to someone who's in it, you really have no clue.

The best musical moments in Star Wars
Friday Apr 24, 2020
Friday Apr 24, 2020
As we mourn the cancellation of Jazz Fest on the 24th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- tackle the important question of what musical moments in Star Wars hit the hardest. Where do the musical wizardry of John Williams and the film-making talents of the various Star Wars directors mesh gorgeously, either in elevating scenes that might not have worked otherwise or in making the already great into something sublime. We each name our three favorite moments, list a ton of alternates, and basically just gush over the music of the Star Wars movies for the entire episode. Come and take a listen, and be sure to scroll down for a link to a playlist of our favorites. And let us know on social if you have your own favorites!

The greatest Star Wars video games of all time

Friday Apr 17, 2020
On this, the 23rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- continue along with Aaron's journey through the MCU, including his surprising feelings about "The Avengers," cover the usual trivia and news, but spend the lion's share of the show discussing their picks for the top Star Wars video games of all time. From the old Star Wars arcade cabinets, to the PC and Nintendo offerings, up to the more modern entries in the gaming universe, they cover pretty much the entire history of Star Wars video gaming in naming their favorites and detailing their own personal experiences. It's virtually (pun intended) a must-listen for all Star Wars video game fans out there.

On the 22nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by another special guest, Aaron's older brother Brian. He offers a new perspective for the show, specifically what it was like to be a 10-year-old when the first Star Wars movie came out. He discusses that experience and offers his thoughts on the newer material in the saga. The group also talks about Ahsoka's growing prominence in the universe and debuts a new feature: Aaron finally watches it. For this initial installment, they talk about "Iron Man" ... and how the MCU and the Star Wars universe seem to be having varying degrees of success of "capturing the magic."

They then turn their talk toward the first three episodes of Season 7 of "The Clone Wars." Is "the bad batch" a welcome diversion or a more critical piece of the overall story? Your WhoDatJedi hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- set their sights backward on today's episode (No. 16) to talk about "A New Hope," specifically about what a disaster the film nearly was. Leaning into documentaries such as "Empire of Dreams" -- a must-watch for anyone curious about the making of the original Star Wars, by the way -- they discuss how the film could have looked vastly different, how it would have been received differently if released at another time, and what it actually has in common with the newest Star Wars movie, "The Rise of Skywalker." On the 15th episode of WhoDatJedi, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- engage in some good old fashioned rumor mongering! Discussion starts with Taika Waititi's comments about potentially directing a Star Wars film, turns toward Bob Iger's statement that Disney is pursuing "The Mandalorian" spinoffs, and finally wraps with reports on the new Cassian Andor series ... including the news that the series is being prioritized over the Obi-Wan series and the unsubstantiated reports that George Lucas is returning to Star Wars as a writer and producer on the Cassian series. What would it actually mean if Lucas returned to his creation in this manner? Bonus on this Valentine's Day: What are the most romantic moments in Star Wars?

The Clone Wars: Why (and how) you should watch!
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Friday Feb 07, 2020
Your WhoDatJedi hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dedicate their 14th episode to "The Clone Wars," the Star Wars animated series created by George Lucas and helmed by Dave Filoni (he of "The Mandalorian" fame). With a new, final, seventh season set to debut on Disney+ Feb. 21, and with the show having so many tie-ins to other Star Wars material (from "Rise of Skywalker" to "Solo" to "The Mandalorian"), now is a great time to review what's come before. They review their favorite moments and character arcs, offer their recommendations for first-time (and repeat) viewers with a viewing guide (linked below), and then talk about what they're looking forward to the most in season 7. Most importantly, they dispel the inaccuracy that this series is just for kids.

On the 12th episode of WhoDatJedi, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- begin the show looking ahead to season 2 of "The Mandalorian" and what new characters and plot lines we might expect to see. The conversation then turns to "The Rise of Skywalker" and the script leak of what was the original Episode IX. There's some good and some bad in there, but it also calls to mind a natural question: Does what we eventually got make sense? How does "Rise" connect to the other movies in the trilogy and the saga in whole? And what is the importance of legacy as a theme?

Palpatine! Darth Sidious! Sheev! They get into specific problems they had with the execution of the storyline of his return and how it might have been improved. But they also ask and attempt to answer the question: Why even bring him back in the first place? He was a big part of the marketing push, so the conversation also addresses the trailers and looks at how specific elements from the trailers were expanded on in the film.
