Rebels Season 4: Unafraid to get wacky
Friday Oct 02, 2020
Friday Oct 02, 2020
On the 46th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- discuss Season 4 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. In keeping with the tone of the season, they get a little silly off/topic at times, but ultimately in the pursuit of something special. Season 4 is ALL about that, as the creators take the series in some pretty different directions, from Loth-Wolves and reincarnation (we think?), to the death of a major character (spoiler alert!), to the return of the space whales, all the way up to time travel in Star Wars (previously forbidden). Does all of it work? What are the best (and worst) episodes? And what do underoos have to do with any of it? All that and more on this week's episode!

The Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer Breakdown
Friday Sep 18, 2020
Friday Sep 18, 2020
On this, the 45th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- get into some serious "The Mandalorian" talk, thanks to the release of the trailer for Season 2. They try to put the new imagery and sound into context within the first season's story and vibe -- how good of a continuation does it seem to be? They then break the trailer down scene by scene to look for clues as to the direction of Season 2. Will the Mandalorian find a home for Baby Yoda? Will he find other heroes along the way? And what kind of resolution can we expect to see from the cliffhanger and other plot threads from Season 1? They have tons of thoughts and theories to share on all of it; have a listen!

Nostalgia for video games in 'High Score' and PLANNING in Star Wars
Friday Sep 11, 2020
Friday Sep 11, 2020
As the NFL season fast approaches, these three Who Dats -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- address a topic on the 44th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast that's non-Star Wars related ... and end up talking about Star Wars for an hour anyway. That's because the news of the week once again illustrates a lack of planning in the sequel trilogy, a hot topic for your hosts. They also talk about "The Mandalorian" news, review the cool new Netflix documentary series, "High Score" (a major win for video game fans), and even get in a little Saints talk.

Which Star Wars deleted scenes belong back in the movies?
Friday Sep 04, 2020
Friday Sep 04, 2020
On the 43rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- address all the latest news, including some (strong) opinions on the recent John Boyega interview, before turning their attention to the topic of the week: Star Wars deleted scenes. You've probably seen or heard of most of these, and they're often entertaining on their own merits, but the group asks the question of "What if?" about which of the scenes might have served the movies well and benefited the overall story. Furthermore, which of these scenes need to stay in the vault forever? Listen to the latest episode to find out!

Live movie discussion: ‘Rogue One’
Friday Aug 28, 2020
Friday Aug 28, 2020
It's another commentary track! On the 42nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dig into "Rogue One" with a live, running commentary track of the movie (because everyone loves the people who talk through the whole movie). They look at why the movie is so beloved by longtime fans, quibble over some of the details (it's not quite perfect), and speak to the larger themes at play. In what is truly the first Star WAR movie, the symbolism is rich throughout, as are the bigger picture ideas like sacrifice, the impact of a conflict on innocents, losing one's humanity, and more. Sync up with the movie or listen without ... but either way, enjoy!

Rebels Season 3: Very much a (great) middle chapter
Friday Aug 21, 2020
Friday Aug 21, 2020
On this, the 41st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk Dolly Parton, Oktoberfest and "The Mandalorian" before doing a retrospective on Season 3 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. The discussion centers on several key episodes that provide a satisfying arc for the season, a path through the Dark Side for Ezra, and a building upon previous seasons. Maul's interactions with the crew of the Ghost and Obi-Wan(!!!) are of course on center stage, but beyond that, what makes Thrawn such a compelling adversary? How do Sabine's struggles resonate? What's the deal with Bendu? And are Chopper and AP-5 the best comedic droid duo in Star Wars? Listen as the group debates.

We've reached 40 episodes of the WhoDatJedi podcast! On this episode, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by special guest Bill Arceneaux (@billreviews), a New Orleans-based film critic. The group inquires about the state of the film industry as well as the film-going experience. Bill speaks to his introduction to the Star Wars films, how he balances his fandom and job when evaluating the movies, why he agrees with Aaron about "The Phantom Menace" being the best prequel, the inherent value in "The Rise of Skywalker" doing something different, and why Star Wars fans should continue to have optimism for the future.

As a veritable wealth of new Star Wars news continues to roll out, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- attempt to catch you up on all of it. The crew breaks down which Emmy nominations "The Mandalorian" should win for, what the newly announced film release dates mean, and how filming "Cassian Andor" and "Obi-Wan" at the same time might make sense. With rumors of projects involving Donald Glover's Lando, Alden Ehrenreich's Han Solo, Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra and even Darth Maul and Tarkin, the group discusses the crossover potential for all of these characters and different series. Is there fire behind all of this smoke? Finally, they address all of the Galaxy's Edge related news (there's actually a lot going on).

Friday Jul 17, 2020
On this, the 36th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dive into Season 2 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. Rather than going episode by episode, the discussion delves into specific topics like the continued inclusion of classic characters, Season 2's overall variance from Season 1, including its devotion to "Clone Wars" legacy storylines (at the exclusion of new characters?), and which episodes work the best -- cough, "Twilight of the Apprentice," cough -- as well as which ones don't (space whales). Your hosts also relate the topic back to the news of the new series "The Bad Batch" and tackle the issues surrounding digitizing Star Wars content for Disney+.

On the 34th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- are joined by special guest Eric Redding (@NolesAndPhins) to talk fandoms and fan service. Eric contributes to a soccer podcast, "Five at the Back," so the group delved into some sports discussion, specifically how sports fandoms can resemble pop culture fandoms, but the main topic of the show was a simple question with a difficult answer: How much fan service is too much? The group discussed which of the Star Wars films have more fan service than the others, how much of a back-and-forth the creators should have with the fans, and what constitutes "good" fan service. This show is literally for the fans! (Well, it's about the fans ... same difference, right?)

Why is 'Rogue One' just the absolute best?
Friday Jun 26, 2020
Friday Jun 26, 2020
Inspired by some fun online "Rogue One" discussion, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dedicate the 33rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast to "Rogue One." The guys touch a little on the fan service present in the movie and relate that back to the most recent episode of "Disney Gallery." But they also tackle several bigger questions about 'Rogue One" as well. Is it an essential piece of Star Wars? How does the relationship between Cassian and Jyn work? Is the Force a welcome presence here? What character would you save if you could? And why is K-2SO the best? They dive into the good (there's so much!) and the bad (yes, there is some!) in a substantial conversation.

Aaron calls upon his experience as an attendee to offer perspective on the decision ... and whether it was ultimately the right call. They also review the newest addition to the Star Wars universe -- "Jedi Temple Challenge" -- which is very much a kids show, but still has some appeal for adults. Finally, they look at the latest episode of "Disney Gallery." This episode dealt with the music composition for "The Mandalorian," and the guys discuss how much this music varies from traditional Star Wars music ... but that it also draws inspiration from some pretty famous westerns.

Friday Jun 12, 2020
On the 31st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dig into Season 1 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. They talk about how good of a job the first season does of pulling viewers in right away, establishing its characters (and developing them), and pulling in existing characters. On that last point, they also discuss a rumored crossover movie involving a few fan favorites, and why that may NOT be the best concept to pursue. There's lots of praise to go around for the creators of this modern Disney Star Wars universe ... but there are also questions about what those creators can and should be doing going forward. When Disney decided to move away from the old EU and rebrand it as "Legends" material in favor of new canon, it left a whole lot of fans disappointed ... and in some cases devastated.
