The Mandalorian Season 2, Chapter 12: Deep Cuts
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
This is the 53rd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast. Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- review and dissect Chapter 12, "The Siege" of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. This episode marks a welcome return of recurring characters Cara Dune and Greef Karga on the planet Nevarro (though if you look closer, each character seems to be on slightly different trajectories at the moment). What the chapter was also big on was some deeper cuts for longtime fans (which the group broke down for you) and some teases for future adventures (predictions abound!). Dave Filoni's influence continues to be felt in the way the show continues to fold in other movies, TV, books and video games, but also in the way he seems to have taken on the role of "caretaker" of Star Wars -- and the group also discusses that.

On the 52nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- welcome back Brittany N. Williams (@BrittanyActs) to the show to discuss “From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back,” which she contributed to with a brand-new L3 adventure, and the whole group reviews Chapter 11 ("The Heiress") of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. Brittany talks about the process of creating her story, from her pitch, to the writing/creation (including how she named her new characters), to the editing ... it's a fun story to hear! After that, the group settles in to discuss the latest Mandalorian-heavy chapter of everyone's favorite Disney+ show. Family and community continue to be major themes, but the group tries to answer such pressing questions as: Is the show working from a pacing perspective? Why does that big cameo make sense? Is the helmet thing finally resolved? And are we going to get more of sweater guy?

Wednesday Nov 11, 2020
On this, the 51st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- review Chapter 10 ("The Passenger") of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. This chapter has been much maligned by segments of the online population since its release, but your hosts break down why this episode is (or should be) important within the overall story in regards to parenting, paradoxically why it alters the family-friendly nature of the show, and what some of its other positives are. They also address the latest "Han shot first" controversy, the possibility of a Boba Fett spin-off show, and much more!

The WhoDatJedi podcast celebrates its 50th episode with a review of the Season 2 premiere of "The Mandalorian," the live-action Star Wars series on Disney+. Your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dive into the ninth chapter, "The Marshal," doing a quick summation and review of where we are. They also talk about all of the callbacks and references in this episode -- including the welcome references to the prequels and books -- examine new character Cobb Vanth, discuss the Mandalorian's growth and evolution as a character, attack the space western tropes (including the role of the sand people as "space Native Americans"), and conclude things with speculation about the surprise cameo at the end. Best of all: there's no election talk whatsoever!

It's another commentary track! On the 48th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dive into "Solo" with a live, running commentary track of the movie (because everyone loves the people who talk through the whole movie). The guys take a closer look at why it was unfair for the movie to be critiqued as being "unnecessary" upon release, speak to the themes of liberty, subjugation and rebellion -- and what those themes mean for the character of Han Solo in particular -- and address Jonathan Kasdan's 52 surprising "Solo" facts in real time. They also talk about what the movie has in common with "A New Hope," why it was such a breath of fresh air at release, and how our appreciation has grown over time. #MakeSolo2Happen

Rebels Season 4: Unafraid to get wacky
Friday Oct 02, 2020
Friday Oct 02, 2020
On the 46th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- discuss Season 4 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. In keeping with the tone of the season, they get a little silly off/topic at times, but ultimately in the pursuit of something special. Season 4 is ALL about that, as the creators take the series in some pretty different directions, from Loth-Wolves and reincarnation (we think?), to the death of a major character (spoiler alert!), to the return of the space whales, all the way up to time travel in Star Wars (previously forbidden). Does all of it work? What are the best (and worst) episodes? And what do underoos have to do with any of it? All that and more on this week's episode!

They try to put the new imagery and sound into context within the first season's story and vibe -- how good of a continuation does it seem to be? They then break the trailer down scene by scene to look for clues as to the direction of Season 2. Will the Mandalorian find a home for Baby Yoda? Will he find other heroes along the way? And what kind of resolution can we expect to see from the cliffhanger and other plot threads from Season 1? They have tons of thoughts and theories to share on all of it; have a listen!

Nostalgia for video games in 'High Score' and PLANNING in Star Wars
Friday Sep 11, 2020
Friday Sep 11, 2020
As the NFL season fast approaches, these three Who Dats -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- address a topic on the 44th episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast that's non-Star Wars related ... and end up talking about Star Wars for an hour anyway. That's because the news of the week once again illustrates a lack of planning in the sequel trilogy, a hot topic for your hosts. They also talk about "The Mandalorian" news, review the cool new Netflix documentary series, "High Score" (a major win for video game fans), and even get in a little Saints talk.

You've probably seen or heard of most of these, and they're often entertaining on their own merits, but the group asks the question of "What if?" about which of the scenes might have served the movies well and benefited the overall story. Friday Aug 28, 2020
It's another commentary track! On the 42nd episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- dig into "Rogue One" with a live, running commentary track of the movie (because everyone loves the people who talk through the whole movie). They look at why the movie is so beloved by longtime fans, quibble over some of the details (it's not quite perfect), and speak to the larger themes at play. In what is truly the first Star WAR movie, the symbolism is rich throughout, as are the bigger picture ideas like sacrifice, the impact of a conflict on innocents, losing one's humanity, and more. Friday Aug 21, 2020
On this, the 41st episode of the WhoDatJedi podcast, your hosts -- Aaron Svoboda (@Aaron_Svoboda), Alfredo Narvaez (@NOLA_Fredo) and David Gladow (@davegladow) -- talk Dolly Parton, Oktoberfest and "The Mandalorian" before doing a retrospective on Season 3 of "Star Wars Rebels," the animated series that takes place between Episodes III & IV. The discussion centers on several key episodes that provide a satisfying arc for the season, a path through the Dark Side for Ezra, and a building upon previous seasons. Maul's interactions with the crew of the Ghost and Obi-Wan(!!!) are of course on center stage, but beyond that, what makes Thrawn such a compelling adversary? How do Sabine's struggles resonate? What's the deal with Bendu? And are Chopper and AP-5 the best comedic droid duo in Star Wars? Listen as the group debates.

Eric contributes to a soccer podcast, "Five at the Back," so the group delved into some sports discussion, specifically how sports fandoms can resemble pop culture fandoms, but the main topic of the show was a simple question with a difficult answer: How much fan service is too much? The group discussed which of the Star Wars films have more fan service than the others, how much of a back-and-forth the creators should have with the fans, and what constitutes "good" fan service.
